Congratulations to Ailsa Wilson, the first Pacific wahine to progress through the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association training programme. Ailsa was acknowledged and celebrated by the LIONZ group and was presented with Te Korowai o te Rau Ora o Ruth Tan (The Fronds/Feathers of Health of Ruth Tan), a fitting recognition of her achievement, leadership, and the pathway she is helping to create for future generations.

This moment was about more than an individual accomplishment. It was a celebration of representation, perseverance, excellence, and the importance of creating a profession that reflects the communities we serve.

We know Ailsa will continue to achieve incredible things throughout her orthopaedic career while inspiring others who follow in her footsteps. We also wish her and her beautiful family every success for the future.

It was a special highlight of the LIONZ Meeting 2026 to provide the opportunity to celebrate a truly significant milestone for Orthopaedics in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Congratulations, Ailsa — we are proud to celebrate this milestone with you.
