  • The American Orthopaedic Association  was formed in 1887 & their published proceedings were the start of what today is called the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.
  • A British society was initially formed in 1894 but became defunct & then the BOA was founded in 1918
  • AAOS  - founded in 1933
  • AOA -  founded in 1936
  • COA - founded 1945
  • NZOA  - founded 1950. The February inaugural meeting was held in Wellington
  • SAOA – founded 1951
